What this is

AutoMechanicAtlas is a free directory of auto repair shops in the United States, organised by state and city. Every listing has an address; most have a phone number, and where a business publishes its hours or services we show those too. Listings come from open data and from the businesses themselves, who can correct their card at any time — about the directory. Nothing on the lists is paid placement.

Pick a state above, or use the “near me” button to jump to the auto repair shops closest to you. City pages show the full list with a map; state pages collect smaller towns that have a single auto repair shop.

Shopping for a repair? Ask for a written estimate before work starts, ask whether the diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair, and ask about the warranty on parts and labor — many independent shops guarantee their work for at least 12 months or 12,000 miles. ASE certification means a technician has passed national exams in specific repair areas.

Common questions

How do I find an honest mechanic?

Ask for a written estimate, ask to see the old parts, and look for ASE-certified technicians and a clear written warranty. AAA Approved Auto Repair shops also agree to AAA’s service standards and its dispute resolution for members.

Is the dealer better than an independent shop?

Warranty and recall work is free at the dealer, so go there for it. For other repairs and maintenance, independent shops usually charge less per hour, and federal law says using one doesn’t void your warranty.

How much does a diagnostic test cost?

Many shops charge about $100–200 for a diagnosis — often one hour of labor — and some credit it toward the repair if you have the work done there. A free code reading at a parts store tells you the trouble code, not the cause.

What does ASE certified mean?

ASE, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, certifies technicians who pass exams in specific areas such as brakes or engine performance and have hands-on work experience; certifications must be renewed every five years.
